The Federal National Mortgage Association commonly known as Fannie Mae was created with a mission to buy the mortgages of the banks thereby enabling them to free up more reserves to originates more mortgage options at affordable rates to the home buyers.

Between the month of May to August of 2008, the stock share of the corporation lost 77% of their value.
