Vastu for House |
Vastu for house depends on the shape of the plot, which can either be a square or a rectangle, or resemble the shape of a Gaumukh. For a residential house, a Gaumukh shaped plot is considered good as it brings prosperity and happiness to the dwellers. The direction of the main entrance door and the doors of the individual rooms also play major roles in Vaastu architecture. In fact, the entire house plan and the design and layout of its various rooms, such as bedroom, pooja room, bathroom, and kitchen are based on the house facing direction.
Vastu for House Entrance
The direction of the plot decides the entry point for your home, which can either be east facing or west facing. The north, north east and the east directions are considered good for a house entrance door. A house with the main door in the south direction hampers the natural flow of energy and thus must be avoided. The doors of the various rooms of the house should preferably open to the North or the East. A window opposite each door enables free flow of energy in the house, which keeps your mind fresh and active.
Vastu for House Plan
Here are a few tips of Vastu house plan for other parts of your home:
- Bedroom: The directions for the master bedroom should be chosen according to the persons who are going to live in that. For example, the bedroom in North-West direction is ideal for guests and girls whereas the one built in the South-West direction seems perfect for the owner of the house. The principles of Vastu Shastra forbid you to construct a bedroom in either North-East or South-East direction or even in the West as it may increase the number of girls in the family or bring you discomfort, frustration and carelessness in attitude.
- Kitchen: A south-east facing kitchen is the most ideal situation according to Vastu. The design of the kitchen should be such that the person making food should always face the east direction. The kitchen slab upon which the food is cooked should ideally be red in colour. The water tap can be placed in the North-East direction, which is believed to be the place of water. This is in contrast to the North-West direction, which is the source of fire and air. Vastu for house kitchen strictly forbids you to consider the south-west direction for its construction.

- Pooja Room: Vastu Shastra lays special emphasis on the construction of a temple at the most suitable place in your home. It is the place of gods and thus it should be placed in the direction which is the most appropriate for the dwellers of the house as per the principles of Vastu.
Ideally it should be in the North-East direction with the idols facing either the North or the East. The worship or Pooja can be performed sitting either in the northern or the southern side of Pooja room in order to gain knowledge or prosperity, respectively.
- Bathroom: The usual direction of the house bathroom is either the West or the South. The direction of the Commode is such that the face of the person while using it should be towards the south or the west. The drain pipes, on the other hand, should be in the North-East direction while the north or the west walls can be used for the fixing of Exhaust fans. The south-east direction is the source of heat and fire, which makes it perfect for the installation of geysers.
