Alabama Property Tax is supervised and controlled by the Property Tax Division of the Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR). The officials of the Property Tax Division supervise the reappraisal of Alabama real estate and make arrangement for equalization of all property in the state. They also make it sure that a uniform pattern is followed to tax all property in all counties of the state in a uniform manner.

Although, the personal and real property taxes are determined separately by each county at the county courthouse with its own millage rate, the pattern of property taxes remains the same through the state of Alabama. Furthermore, the Real Property Section of Alabama Department of Revenue implements procedures and plans for statewide property equalization program. It also maintains manual of Alabama Appraisal and provides training in appraisal to its personnel.

To train its personnel, the Alabama Department of Revenue runs education programs for property tax related tasks. These courses include Alabama Certified Appraiser (ACA), Alabama Certified Tax Administrator (ACTA), Alabama Certified Mapper (ACM) and Support Staff Development. The Alabama Department of Revenue also conducts examinations for Alabama Certified Appraiser of Real Property, Alabama Certified Mapper, Alabama Certified Appraiser of Personal Property and Alabama Certified Tax Administrator. All these examinations are held in the month of March every year.
