Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board

Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board (AREAB) came into existence in 1990, following the Enactment of Public Law in 1989, which made it mandatory for each of the states in the US to establish a licensing agency for appraisers. Besides offering license, the Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board also takes measures to certify and regulate real estate appraisers within the state. The basic idea behind the creation of the board is to protect the interests of general public by ensuring the quality of such services. Thus only those professionals are provided with real estate appraisal licenses who are qualified enough to act according to the Federal as well as State Law.

As a matter of fact, there is a wide range of clients that require the services of qualified appraisers all across the state. Banks, insurance companies, mortgage companies and even homeowners hire real estate appraisers to assess the value of property for various purposes. Legally speaking, the value of real property in Alabama cannot be determined by a person other than the licensed appraisers. Even real estate agents in Alabama, unless they are licensed from Real Estate Appraiser Board, are not entitled to appraise a real property, although they are at the center of real estate transactions.
