| Arizona is the sixth largest state of the United States of America with a total land area of 113,998 square miles, however, only 15 percent of it is privately owned. Most part of the state consists of public parks, forests and recreation areas with the famous Grand Canyon located here. It is widely known for its desert landscape with xerophyte plants and hot & humid climate. High areas in the north mountainous region have somewhat cooler weather than the lower deserts. Humphreys Peak is the highest point with a height of 12,633 ft, while Colorado river is the lowest with 70 ft. The state of Arizona was made the 48th state of the nation in the year 1912, when it celebrated 50th anniversary of its recognition as a territory of the US. Located in the southwestern region, its neighborhood consists of states like New Mexico, Nevada, California, Utah and Colorado. Its population is growing at a very fast speed and currently its rate of growth is only the second after Nevada. Phoenix is the largest city and also the capital of the state. Phoenix is further divided into four metropolitan areas, namely Mesa, Chandler, Glendale and Scottsdale. Tucson is the second largest city in area. |
