| Arkansas is the 29th largest state of the United States of America with a total land area of 53,179 square miles. It is 239 miles wide and 261 miles long. Located in the southern region of the country, it borders with six states including Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma. Mississippi river touches its eastern boundary, while the mainland is dotted with diverse geographical features. It is a part of the US Interior Highlands with mountainous regions consisting of Ouachita and Ozarks mountains. The highest point in the state of Arkansas is Mount Magazine with a height of 2,753 ft, while the lowest point is Ouachita river with a depth of 55 ft. The word 'Arkansas' is derived from 'Kansas, another state of the US, and the population here mostly consists of Kansas tribe. As the state is situated in the humid subtropical zone, it witnesses hot and humid climate in summer whereas in winter it becomes mild and a bit drier. Average precipitation is between 40 and 60 inches with southern part receiving more rainfall than the northern one. Among the cities of Arkansas, Little Rock is the largest with maximum number of people living here. Situated in the central part, Little Rock is also the capital of the state. |
