California Office of Real Estate Appraisers

Office of Real Estate Appraisers California (OREA) protects the interests of common citizens by acting as a monitoring body to assess the abilities of real estate appraisers and offering licenses to only competent ones. It is a state agency and runs on the amount it receives as licensing fees. California Board of Appraisers has two major tasks, licensing and enforcement. Its licensing unit sets minimum educational requirements and experiences for the aspirants of real estate appraisers and in doing so, it adheres to the standard set by the federal government and the law of the state. The objective of the California Office of Real Estate Appraisers is to ensure that only qualified candidates are licensed. The enforcement unit, on the other hand, makes sure that the licensed real estate appraisers in the state work in accordance with the rules and regulations.

Office of Real Estate Appraisers CA came into existence in the year 1990 when the California Legislature enacted the Real Estate Appraisers Licensing and Certification Law in response to a federal law, which made it mandatory for each state in the US to license and certify real estate appraisers by a state agency. The creation of the Office of Real Estate Appraisal has been a driving force for real estate in California, since it has added an strong element of professionalism and integrity in professional appraisers. With guiding principles, such as leadership, integrity, excellence, loyalty and accountability, the California Board of Real Estate Appraisers has so far offered licenses to over 18,000 real estate appraisers statewide.

California Appraisal License Requirements

It is the Appraiser Qualification Board (AQB) of the Appraisal Foundation that sets the qualifications criteria for the applicants of real estate appraisal nationwide and also makes changes in the pattern whenever it thinks necessary. There are four levels of OREA licenses, Trainee (AT), Residential (AL), Certified Residential (AR) and Certified General (AG). The requirements for education and experience for each level vary and a uniform state appraiser examination is conducted to test the competency of the applicants.

In order to succeed in the examination, you may take assistance from real estate appraisal schools in California. There are many such schools accredited by California Office of Real Estate Appraisal in the state, which offer a range of courses and programs in order to suit the needs of the students. The responsibility for the accreditation of such courses also lies with the California Office of Real Estate Appraisers.
