California Office of Real Estate Appraisers (OREA) is a government-sponsored body that protects the interest of common citizens during and after the process of an appraisal practice. It is a state agency that fulfills the licensing requirements of competent real estate appraisers and monitors their professional activities through continuous assessment of the work they perform in CA. It is runs on the grants earmarked by the state government and also on the amount it collects as licensing fees.
To obtain a license from the California Board of Appraisers, a citizen of the state must complete the minimum educational requirements and experiences the board has set for the same. While determining the eligibility criteria for licensure, the California Office of Real Estate Appraisers follows the law and standard set by the federal as well as state government. The board's enforcement unit sees to it that every licensed real estate appraisers must conform to the appraisal rules and regulations of the state.
It was in the year 1990 when the Office of Real Estate Appraisers CA became operational after enactment of the Real Estate Appraisers Licensing and Certification Law in the California Legislature. Prior to this enactment, the federal government had already passed a law making it mandatory for each state in the United States to have a monitoring body for real estate appraiser license, certification and control. Since its inception, the board has licensed to over 18,000 appraisers in the entire state, thus giving a further boost to the real estate in California. It has ensured a very high degree of professionalism and integrity in appraisal practices and inculcated the qualities of leadership, excellence, accountability and loyalty in licensed appraisers statewide.
California Appraisal License RequirementsIt is the Appraiser Qualification Board (AQB) of the Appraisal Foundation that sets the qualifications criteria for the applicants of real estate appraisal nationwide and also makes changes in the pattern whenever it thinks necessary. There are four levels of OREA licenses, Trainee (AT), Residential (AL), Certified Residential (AR) and Certified General (AG). The requirements for education and experience for each level vary and a uniform state appraiser examination is conducted to test the competency of the applicants.

There are many such schools accredited by California Office of Real Estate Appraisal in the state, which offer a range of courses and programs in order to suit the needs of the students.
