Colorado Property Tax

Colorado Property Tax is administered by the Colorado Division of Property Taxation (DPT) throughout the state of Colorado. The division is also responsible for the interpretation and implementation of Colorado Property Tax Laws in 64 counties of of the state. The Property Tax Administrator, who provides leadership to all the activities of Colorado Property Tax Division, was appointed by the Colorado State Board of Equalization.

Colorado Division of Property Taxation

The Division of Property Taxation provides assistance to the property tax assessors of each county and initiate activities to promote equalization of property valuation and other property tax related objectives.

The DPT's Administrative Resources brings out administrative manuals, instructions and procedures, and conducts schools and seminars to support assessors' offices for administrative functions during CO Property Tax Assessment. Moreover, field studies are conducted and statewide assistance is provided in mapping, title conveyance, certification of values to taxing entities, abstracting valuations and feasibility studies. This section also entertains the complaints of taxpayers. Besides many studies are conducted and reports are generated for various purposes.

Similarly, the Appraisal Standards is responsible for appraisal manuals, procedures and instructions.

Besides it provides assistance to schools and seminars for appraising real property, classifying agricultural land, assessing the value of residential, commercial and industrial properties. It also investigates the complaints made by the taxpayers in Colorado. Exemptions determines the eligibility criteria for exemptions from Colorado Property Taxes and provides assistance to county officials in this regard. On the other hand the State Assessed Properties assesses the values of all public utilities and companies involved in rail transportation business in the state of Colorado.
