HUD/US Department of Housing and Urban Development

HUD, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Authority, is responsible for improving the lives of the citizens of United States of America (USA) that especially include low-moderate income families. The hardcore mission of HUD is to provide homeownership to everyone.

HUD was established in 1965 as a cabinet-level agency with the enforcement of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Act of 1965. HUD works for the better life and for this there are many housing programs that include rental assistance, mortgage help, information on US Foreclosures, Fair Housing Programs etc. All the HUD housing programs help in the economic development and provide affordable housing. All the housing programs of Housing Urban development Department, HUD can be broadly categorized as following:
  • Community Planning and Development
  • Public and Indian Housing
  • Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae)
  • Single Family Housing Program
  • Multifamily Housing Program
  • Housing/Federal Housing Administration (FHA)
  • Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity
  • Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control
  • Regulatory Affairs and Manufactured Housing
Each category of housing programs has separate list of home programs. Some of these are as follow:

American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI): Through ADDI, HUD provides funds to low & moderate income families for buying their first home

Housing Choice Voucher Program: It gives rental assistance. For this HUD section 8 voucher is given to the families and individuals who apply for this assistance.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG): Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is a special program by HUD to strengthen the communities. Funds through CDBG are provided to the troubled and low income communities.

Supportive Housing Program: In this program grant is offered for rehabilitation, new construction and for acquiring the home. Homeless individuals and families are also given grants under this program. For this one can either take transitional or permanent housing program. Transitional housing is that where individual or family can stay for 24 months and permanent housing has no interruption in the tenancy limit.

HUD along with so many housing programs also give grants under the category of HUD Grants Program. But for availing these grants you will have to get yourself register with Grants.gov that includes a very simple procedure. Explanation for this is given in the official website of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Along with HUD home programs and grants, it also gives info on buying, owning, selling and renting homes. in US, HUD also provides Home Mortgage Loan assistance. This help is not direct but through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) that is the part of the US Housing and Urban Development Department. FHA works through its approved lending institutions that are in every city of US. These mortgage lenders give home loans that are insured by HUD.

For rehabilitation and repair there exist the Section (203)k program. This is granted to the single family homes only. Rehabilitation and revitalization is an important aspect of this program that is of primary concern to the HUD. These mortgage lenders are also associated with the non-profit organizations, local housing agencies for rehabilitations. This Section (203)k program is also associated with the HOP, HUD Home and Community Development Block Grant Program.

Along with this, HUD Foreclosure assistance is also of great help and use for the homeowners who are facing the foreclosure. Under this category of HUD help, housing counseling agencies at city and state level work that offer counseling services to the homeowners for protecting their home. HOPE is also a program specifically meant for foreclosure help. Then there are management companies and brokers who are approved and registered by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for buying HUD foreclosure homes. Foreclosed homes are possessed by HUD if the payment of home loan granted by FHA is not given on time.

Along with all these things, HUD also helps in reducing the unemployment by giving many jobs. Different management companies and brokers can contact HUD for selling their homes. To know more about HUD and its housing programs keep flipping the pages of Realestatezing.com.
