HUD 202 program is one of the award winning Federal housing programs that helps to expand the supply of affordable housing together with supportive services for elderly citizens. HUD 202 loan provide very low income senior citizens with convenient options that allow them to survive independently in an environment that offers support activities like cooking, cleaning and transportation. This Federal program is quite similar with Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities (Section 811).
HUD 202 Regulations
Every year, US Department of Housing and Urban Development offers a highly competitive opportunity for securing capital funds to construct and operate housing for very low income elderly persons who are of 62 years or above. The funds are known as Capital Advance and they are used to purchase land, design and construct multi-family apartment complex for elderly citizens. The Capital Advance is non-payable as long as the housing is maintained for use for the elderly for a period of 40 years. The entire regulations of this program is administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
HUD 202 Senior Housing
If you are an elderly citizen and if you have housing needs then you can apply for HUD 202 senior housing program. Occupancy in HUD 202 Section 8 housing is open to any low income household comprising of at least one elderly person who is of 62 years or above at the time of initial occupancy. To get this program, applicants should submit an application for a capital advance including a request for fund reservation and various other information corresponding to the Notice of Funding Availability. Applications should be submitted at local HUD field office with jurisdiction across the area where the proposed project will be located.
HUD 202 NOFA
NOFA stands for Notice of Fund Availability and it is published each year in the Federal Register. The Congress first set its annual budget and then distribute the HUD funds as identified in the budget to several HUD offices. At the end of every year, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development began its notice of funding availability process for the coming year by publishing policy requirements and general section language for discretionary funding programs.
