HUD Grants |
HUD grants are available through grants.gov. 1000 of grant programs are running under the grants.gov with about $400 billion as annual award. The US Housing and Urban Development Authority is one of organizations that are eligible to apply for the grants from this agency for government grants by Grants.gov. Further in the ladder, there are various organizations and groups that are awarded with the HUD grants for numerous purposes.
Some of these are:- Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA)
- Housing Counseling
- Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control
- Capacity Building
- Continuum of Care
HUD does not directly deal with the grants but there are various non-profit and government organizations through which this financial assistance is provided.
For the purpose of giving HUD grants and making Grant programs there is a separate department of HUD, which is the Office of Departmental Grants Management and Oversight (ODGMO). Many responsibilities and duties are performed by ODGMO for HUD grants program, as:
- Straightening the procedure to increase efficiency
- Separating the policy makers from the one who are selecting grantees
- Increasing internal controls
HUD has 35 grant programs and makes about $1 billion through these programs. For taking the HUD grants, first of all you will have to register yourself. For which an application is required to be sent. You can apply electronically with electronic grant applications in which step by step procedure for the registration has been mentioned. The application is then validated by grants.gov within 24-48 hours from the time of receiving. There also exist deadlines for sending the application for HUD grants and this deadline can be checked in the website of Grants.gov. If there is change in the email address of the applicant then it should be informed to the Grants.gov in with Authorized Organization Representative (AOR). Along with this, before entering into an agreement with HUD, the organization who is applying for HUD grants must provide their Code of Conduct that is given to the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA).
Each year funding announcements are done that include the list of companies and organizations that have been granted with HUD grants.

HUD home grant programs are also running under HOME program. This HUD home grant is given to local as well as state communities that work with non-profit organizations. Funds are given to buy homes, for rehabilitation in the form of rental home and this grant is also given for constructing new homes by low income families. Along with this, HUD also give section 8 grant for rental assistance.
