Iowa Real Estate License Renewal needs continuing education, which keeps the applicant's knowledge updated. The renewal period for salesperson and broker has been defined by Iowa Real Estate Commission.
Iowa Real Estate License Renewal: Procedures
Residents of Iowa having the license that has expired within the period of three years can submit the reinstatement application. In this application following documents are required for Iowa real estate license renewal:
- Proof of continuing education
- Errors and Omission insurance
- Verification of CE
- Salesperson needs to show the proof of working under licensed broker
Applicants who are not the resident of IA also need to go for the renewal of license as per Law. In the reinstatement application, they need to show the certified license history, errors and omission certificate and continuing education proofs. Applicants who are applying for the inactive license need not to submit the proof of continuing education.
Real Estate Continuing Education
The requirement of continuing education for professionals is laid down according to the date of issuance of real estate license. Salesperson who has been licensed before January 1, 2009 need to complete 36 hours of courses in order to do IA real estate license renewal for the first time. In these course comes:
- Developing Professionalism & Ethical Practices - 12 hours
- Buying Practices - 12 hours
- Listing Practices - 12 hours
IA Real Estate License Renewal Requirements
Second and subsequent Iowa real estate license renewal requirements for continuing education is completed by doing 8 hours of Law Update, 4 hours of Ethics and 24 hours of elective courses approved by the Commission. The same courses of Law Updates, Ethics and Elective course are applicable to the applicant seeking renewal of the license after December 31, 2008. The hours taken are not carry over to the next renewal period.

Applicant from Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming also need to sign affidavit, confirming the continuing education.
