Kentucky Real Estate License

Kentucky Real Estate License is a mode of regularizing real estate as licensed salespersons and associates have more knowledge of laws and practices than unlicensed individuals. There is a step by step procedure that should be followed in getting KY real estate license. This includes getting education/diploma or related study from the real estate school in KY, approved by Kentucky Real Estate Commission. Then pre-licensing education and clearing of Kentucky real estate licensing exam is done. Before this, one must have valid and relevant experience. There are different requirements for brokers and salesperson to get the real estate license in Kentucky.

Kentucky Real Estate Licensing for Sales Associate

Requirements for getting Kentucky real estate license for Sales Associate
  • The age of the candidate should be 18 years and s/he must hold the high school diploma or studies equal to that.
  • Completed 96 classroom hours in the course of real estate and that to from the Proprietary School that approved by Kentucky Real Estate Commission. If not this then must have successfully completed six semesters of real estate courses from any approved school or university of real estate.
  • Licensed salesperson applying for the KY real estate license must also submit the License Certification along with the application
  • Also submit criminal background check
  • Forms showing the completion of Kentucky real estate licensing exam should be attached with the rest of the application. These certificates are given at the time of clearing the exam.

KY Real Estate Broker License Requirements

To apply for the real estate broker license in Kentucky following requirements must be fulfilled:
  • 18 years of age
  • Must have the experience of two years as sales associate covering 20 hours per week. To provide the proof, notarized affidavit that is dully signed by the principal broker should be submitted along with the application for the KY real estate license.
  • Course requirements include 21 credit hours with 12 credit hours in real estate courses. Alternatively 336 classroom hours from any approved Proprietary School can be done. All the applicants who are applying for the Kentucky real estate licence for brokers must have completed course in Brokerage Management including 48 classroom hours or 3 credit hours.
  • All the applicants who are applying from other state for the brokers license must also submit the certificate of criminal background check. Along with this License Certification form should also be given at the time of applying for the KY real estate license.
  • Forms showing the passing of real estate pre-licensing exam. These forms along with the instructions on how to apply for the license is given on-site where exam is cleared.

Real Estate License Renewal

Kentucky real estate licenses are issued within a week of applying for the same. KY real estate license expires on 31st March each year. Renewal needs continuing education and renewal fee. Application for the Kentucky real estate license renewal must be submitted before 31st March. Penalty of $100 is charged for paying or applying after 31st March and $200 along with renewal licensing fee of done after 15th May.
