| Minnesota is the twelfth largest state of the US by area. It is located in the Midwestern region of the country with North Dakota and South Dakota to the west, Iowa to the south, and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario to the north. Towards the east, it shares the border with Wisconsin and Michigan. More than five million people reside in Minnesota making it the 21st largest state in the United States by population. More than half the population live in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, commonly known as the Twin Cities. Most of the state consists of western prairies, where various agricultural activities are the mainstay. Most residents are of German or Nordic descent, but people of African, Asian and Latin American origins are also found these days. Eagle Mountain is the highest point while Lake Superior is the lowest in the state. Popularly known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", the state has a plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities to attract tourists of all kinds. Minnesota joined the Union in 1858 to become 32nd state of the USA. Saint Paul is the capital and Minneapolis is the largest city of the state. |
