Minnesota Appraisal Board functions under the umbrella network of Minnesota Department of Commerce, which has a separate division for licensing, certification and registration of professionals in a particular field. At present, most of the licensing activities of the board is done online in cooperation with a vendor, named Pearson VUE. Through their joint efforts, they have developed the PULSE system,which is an acronym for Pearson VUE Uniform Licensing System for E-Government. The PULSE system has made it easier for the Minnesota real estate appraisers to apply for licenses, check on continuing education, renew existing licenses or perform other licensure specific tasks.Minnesota Real Estate Appraiser LicenseThe laws of Minnesota make it necessary for each and every professional appraisers to have an appropriate license from the Minnesota Appraisal Board in order to operate in the state. It implies that a person, unless licensed, is not allowed to function as a real estate appraiser anywhere in the state. Moreover, it is also unlawful to use licensure specific titles, abbreviations or designations by people other than the licensed appraisers. To cater to the different licensing needs of the professional appraisers, the Minnesota Appraisal Board offers five kinds of licensure.
The five classes of licenses for Minnesota real estate appraisers are Trainee Real Property Appraiser, Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser, Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser and Certified General Real Property Appraiser. Each of these licensing categories has different scope of practice and also requires different sets of education qualifications and abilities.
