Montana Board of Real Estate Appraisers

Montana Board of Real Estate Appraisers is commissioned to undertake the responsibility of regulating and licensing professionals engaged in real estate appraisal practice statewide. It was 1989 when an act was passed by Senate to make it obligatory for each state in the US to have a separate licensing body for real estate appraisers. Moreover, such licenses are made compulsory for a professional appraiser to conduct business at federal level. As a result, the Montana Board of Real Estate Appraisers was established under the umbrella of Montana Department of Labor and Industry (MDLI).

Montana Real Estate Appraisers Board: Its Functions

The basic function of Montana Appraisal Board is to enforce appraisal laws, provide licenses to qualified persons, take disciplinary actions and educate general public and consumers. Members of the board are appointed by the Governor for a term of three years. A member may be allowed to serve the board for another term of three years, but in no case they can be a member of the board for more than two terms. The members meet at regular intervals to peruse documents and testimonials submitted by applicants for appraisal licensure and finalize the list of successful candidates.

Montana Appraiser Licensing

Licensed Appraiser, Trainee, Certified Residential Appraiser, Certified General Appraiser and Mentor are the licensing categories that are offered by the Montana Board of Real Estate Appraisers. Each of these requires you to have a separate set of educational and other requirements. Besides certain hours of pre-approved education, there are USPAP courses that you are required to complete before applying for a licensing category. You will also have to appear in an exam conducted by the board. Apart from educational requirements, you may also require experience for some categories of licenses.

Licensed appraisers can serve consumers better, as they are highly qualified and much experienced. But the fact that they are controlled and regulated by an independent board makes it sure that the Montana real estate appraisers will act ethically and lawfully.

This is a favorable sign for the growth of such industries that are closely linked with the practice of real estate appraisal. Professionals like real estate agents , insurance agents or brokers also work in association with real estate appraisers and so they can have trust and confidence in licensed professionals. It is the work of Montana Appraisal Board that gives them such a confidence.
