Montana Board of Realty Regulation

Montana Board of Realty Regulation of the Department of Labor and Industry - Business Standards controls the activity of brokers and real estate salesperson by putting regulations on the exam and licensing requirements. Governor appoints the board members after the confirmation from the Senate. Board members are appointed for four years and they can serve the two consecutive terms.

Montana Real Estate License

Real Estate License in Montana can be obtained through examination, reciprocity, equivalence and waiver. All the things are taken care by the Montana Real Estate Board. Education requirements are defined that include high school graduation and equivalent studies. Along with this 60 hr of pre-licensing education from the accredited schools of education is also mandatory. These schools along with other regular real estate schools need to get approval from the Montana Board of Realty Regulation. Reciprocity with twelve other states in US and one in Canada is also maintained by the board. Therefore candidates from these states who are real estate licensed can apply for the license in Montana.

Under equivalency an applicant submit the proof of equivalent education to the Montana Real Estate Board and if the application is accepted then the applicant just need to complete the 60 hours of pre-licensing instruction. Board of realty in MT also handle the renewal of the license that occurs on 31st October each year. For this licensee should complete the 12 hours of education in a year and submit the application with the fee.
