National Association Of Realtors

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has a nationwide membership of over 1.3 million Realtors, thus making it the largest trade association not only in the US alone but in the entire world. When the NAR's foundation was laid on May 12, 1908 in Chicago, Illinois, there were just 120 members, thus giving it the most humble start. But as the journey progressed, things changed and membership rose. The name "National Association of Real Estate Exchanges" with which it came into existence was changed into "National Association of Real Estate Boards" in 1916 and then again in 1974 into "National Association of Realtors, the name by which it is known today. NAR Code of Ethics was first adopted in 1913, and from then onwards it became mandatory for the members to follow them strictly in their professional practices, no matter which state they belong to.

National Association of Realtors (or National Realtors Association) aims at bringing unity among real estate professionals and giving a uniform shape to the real estate industry across the country. The members can share knowledge, exchange views, learn and teach technical know-how and use the vast resources of NAR to improve their professional skills and help maintain a very high degree of professionalism in the industry. On the other hand, the NAR Code of Ethics has ensured optimum fairness in business dealings, thus helping in the creation of an ideal real estate environment based on mutual trust, professional integrity and ethical standard. The NAR convention, held at every frequent interval, discusses issues governing the industry, such as tax credits, existing home sales, home prices, MLS, statistics and members' health insurance to protect the interest of Realtors and also the common people.

National Association of Realtors Membership

NAR's membership is open to residential as well as commercial real estate professionals, which may include real estate brokers, property managers, salespeople, counselors, appraisers, and all those engaged in various aspects of real estate industry in the US. Only after becoming a member of the National Assoc of Realtors, a real estate professional, besides availing several other benefits, is entitled to use the terms 'realtor' or 'realtors' for commercial purposes as they are the registered trademarks of the association. To take membership of National Board of Realtors, one needs to join his/her local real estate board first. Afterwards, the membership can gradually be extended to state association and finally to the national association.

NAR Member Benefits

The NAR website contains a complete listing of all these boards/associations.
