| Nebraska is the sixteenth largest state of the United States in area. Its total area is 77,421 square miles, which is a home for more than 1.7 million people. The state ranks 38th in the list of the most populous states of the country. Located on the Great Plains of the Midwestern region, Nebraska shares its borderline with South Dakota to the north, Kansas to the south, Iowa to the east and Wyoming to the west. Missouri is at its southeast corner and Colorado is at its southwest corner. There are two time zones in the state. The eastern half falls in The Central Time Zone while the western half follows Mountain Time. There are three rivers that flow from west to east. The Platte River flows in the central part, the Niobrara River in the northern part and the Republican River in the southern part. The surface of Nebraska consists of the Dissected Till Plains and the Great Plains. The highest point is Panorama Point situated at a height of 5,424 feet while the lowest point is at Missouri river at a depth of 840 feet. Omaha is the largest city and Lincoln is the capital of the state. |
