North Dakota Property Tax

North Dakota Property Tax is levied on all real property lying in the state including mobile homes. Some property may be exempted from real property tax subject to meeting of requirements as laid out in the ND Property Tax Law. Every year, January 1 is the due date for real estate taxes, which must be paid before March 1 in order to avoid penalty. If full payment is made before February 15, a discount of 5% is given on total taxable amount. In case of a mobile home in North Dakota, an appropriate property tax is levied if it is longer than 27 feet.

North Dakota Property Taxes

The property taxes and mobile home taxes are determined and collected separately by each county in the state of North Dakota . The collected revenue is then distributed among county, cities, school districts, townships and other taxing jurisdictions.

The valuation is also performed at count level for most real property. However, in case of public utilities, such as railroads and airlines, the valuation is performed by the North Dakota State Board of Equalization and the valuation reports are sent to the counties for taxation and property tax collection.

Both the centrally assessed property and the locally assessed property are taxed simultaneously. There also exists North Dakota Property Tax Relief for homeowners, land owners and commercial property owners. For example, the income tax credit for residential and agricultural property can go up to a maximum limit of $500 to $1000 depending upon certain criteria.

Similarly, property tax credit is available for commercial property owners. For a detailed description of all kinds of ND Property Tax Relief and Exemptions, you may visit the official site of North Dakota State Government.
