Tennessee Appraisal Board

Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser Commission is responsible for the regulation of real estate appraisers and sees to it that they function as per the law of the state. In order to administrate them better, the Tennessee Real Estate Appraisers Board issues licenses and certificates to qualified professionals, receives complaints against any of them and, if necessary, suspends or cancels their licensure. The board also provides guidance regarding the educational courses to complete for obtaining an appraisal license whilst adhering to the standards set by the Appraisal Qualifications Board and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.

Tennessee Appraisal License

There are three types of appraisal licenses provided by the Tennessee Appraisal Board, each with a specified scope of operation. As the scopes of all these licensing categories vary greatly so do the needs of educational and other abilities for obtaining them. These three categories are State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser, State Certified Residential Appraiser and State Certified General Appraiser. The applicants should note that only board-approved courses will be considered for the award of appraisal licenses. The Tennessee Real Estate Board provides a list of approved courses on its websites. Moreover, you will also find accredited schools and institutes that offer such courses in the state of Tennessee.

Apart from the categories of licenses mentioned above, there is a fourth category that requires no experience and serves as a gateway for young real estate appraisers, who have just begun their careers. They are, however, required to have competed approved courses to become a registered trainee. After registering with the commission, the trainee has to work under the direct supervision of a certified real estate appraiser. After gaining experience in this way, registered trainee can move up to obtain next level of licensure.
