| Utah is the thirteenth largest state of the United States, covering an area of 84,889 square miles. The state has a population of more than 2.7 million residents making it the 34th largest in the country. Utah is also one of the fastest growing states in the US in population. Located in the western region of the nation, the state is bounded on the north by Idaho, Colorado on the east, Arizona on the south, Wyoming on the northeast, New Mexico on the southeast and Nevada on the west. Utah is among the three US states that have no natural boundaries except the lines of latitude and longitude. Geographically, the state is divided into the Rocky Mountains, the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin. Its diverse geographical features range from arid deserts with sand dunes to pine forests in the mountainous region. Kings Peak is the highest point while Beaver Dam Wash is the lowest with a geological measurement of 13,528 feet and 2,178 feet respectively. Utah is a hub of information technology, transportation, government services, mining and tourist industry. Salt Lake City is the largest city and the capital of the state. |
