The unclaimed money in Utah is always available for the owners and there is no time limit for them to file a claim. The Division has developed resources to help people find their various kinds of funds and view the status of their claims online.

Unclaimed Property in Utah includes paid-up life insurance policies, saving accounts, checking accounts, unpaid wages, commissions, certificates of deposit, uncashed checks, gift certificates, dividends, money orders, overpayments, death benefits, money orders, insurance payments, stocks, refunds and contents of safe deposit boxes. Real estate is not considered unclaimed property in the state of Utah .

Although Utah Unclaimed Properties can always be claimed with no extra fee, you can take steps to prevent your assets, funds or money from becoming unclaimed. Keeping your accounts active in financial institutions, banks or insurance companies etc by ensuring at least one transaction in every five years will prevent your accounts from being declared abandoned or unclaimed.
The Utah Unclaimed Property Division maintains a comprehensive list of owners of unclaimed property and assists you in finding your name in this UT Unclaimed Property List through many ways. You can either conduct a direct search online or make request to the officials to search unclaimed assets for you. In certain cases, you can also take professional help from certified finders, who will perform unclaimed property search for a fee.
