There are three types of licensees in the state which are, broker, temporary broker and salesperson.

Real estate license in Vermont needs applicant to be 18 years of age, citizen of US and must have cleared the real estate exam. Salesperson to get real estate license in VT must be associated with and sponsored by the broker. Within a year of clearing the real estate salesperson exam, applicant can apply for the Vermont real estate license. Salespersons also need to complete 40 hours of pre-licensing education course to become a licensed professional. Two years immediately before applying for the license, the candidate must have cleared the two levels of real estate exam i.e. state as well as national. Any non resident licensed candidate can be omitted for giving the national level exam if the Commission finds that requirements of that state are similar to those of Vermont, candidate is licensed and actively involved in the real estate profession. But all the applicants need to complete the state portion of exam to become licensed in VT.

Real estate brokers should complete 40 hours of courses that are approved by the Vermont Real Estate Commission . Along with this applicant must have one year of experience as licensed salesperson and must have completed six transactions during that period. National as well state level exam must also be cleared. Vermont Real estate licenses are issued for the period of two years and must be renewed with the certified number of continuing education courses. Real estate salesperson and licensee brokers require 16 hours of continuing education for the current VT real estate license renewal.

If the initial period of the license is less than two years then there can be given exemption in the number of courses for continuing education. Real estate license renewal forms are available online in the official website that can be downloaded and complete form then can be sent to the Real Estate Commission with fee. Some of the licensee make their real estate license in Vermont inactive by paying fee before the expiry date. For this continuing education is not required. But to make it active again there is a need of continuing education. This can be done within a period of five years. Anytime during this period license can be activated by paying late fee and showing the proof of 16 hours of courses.
