West Virginia Appraisal Board

West Virginia Appraisal Board, officially named as the West Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board, was established in 1990 by an act of the state legislature. The objective behind the existence of such a board is to assure people of the quality and integrity of real estate appraisers, they need to hire for appraising real property. There are certain rules and regulations regarding the appraisal activities, and the board makes it sure that all its licensees perform their jobs in accordance with Federal and State laws, both. In order to enforce the laws effectively, the West Virginia Appraisal Board is also vested with powers to entertain complaints and take disciplinary actions.

West Virginia Real Estate Appraisers

The state laws say that no one without an appropriate license from the West Virginia Appraisal Board should estimate the value of real property for a fee. As a result, it becomes mandatory for each and every professional related somehow with the job of appraisal practices in the state to take steps in order to become registered, licensed or certified, as the case may be. There are, in fact, four types of licenses, which suffice the needs of different types of West Virginia Appraisers. These are Apprentice, Licensed Residential, Certified Residential and Certified General. While a Licensed Residential or a Certified Residential can appraise residential real property within a certain level of complexity, the Certified General can appraise any type of real property without regard to complexity. An Apprentice is an entry level appraiser who must work under the supervision of a state certified appraiser.

WV Real Estate Appraisal Board Members

The West Virginia Appraisal Board has nine members who are appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Senate. Only the residents of the state of West Virginia are considered for the appointment. Out of the nine members, four are real estate appraisers, two are from financial institutions and three from the general public. Each member is appointed for a three-year term and can serve the board for three successive terms, but not more than that. Moreover, a member cannot be a member of WV Real Estate Appraisal Board and the WV Real Estate Commission , simultaneously.
